Dr. Perry Gee

Intermountain Health

Dr. Gee has a PhD in Nursing Science and Health-care Leadership from the University of California, Davis, a master’s degree in Clinical Informatics from the University of Utah, and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Montana State University. He is board certified as an Advanced Nurse Executive. Perry is the Nurse Scientist for Intermountain Health and the Interim Regional Executive Director for Nursing Professional Practice and Practice Excellence. Perry is a Fellow in American Academy of Nursing and the Western Academy of Nurses.

Heather Addy

Heather Addy has been an active nurse since earning her degree in 2002. She has vast experience in many facets of nursing. In 2009, she discovered her love for infusion therapy and vascular access and validated her knowledge and skills by becoming certified in infusion therapy (CRNI) as well board-certified in vascular access (VA-BC). She has been a vascular access specialist for more than 10 years as well as a member of the Infusion Nurses Society, the Association for Vascular Access, and a former president of the Iowa Nebraska Vascular Access Network. She has done clinical education for pharmaceutical companies (none in the last 4 years), community colleges, and has created learning content for many healthcare facilities. In 2017, she started one of Iowa's first mobile vascular access companies. 

Abby Rail

Abby Rail is a Nursing Consultant in Des Moines, Iowa. She has led the clinical, quality, and compliance initiatives for a multidisciplinary healthcare startup to impact children, adults, and older adults in their homes. With 20 years of healthcare experience, she has held multiple nursing roles at the bedside and in leadership in various settings and with a wide variety of patient populations. Abby received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Allen College, a Master of Science in Nursing-Clinical Nurse Leader Degree from University of Iowa, and is completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Health Systems & Executive Leadership at the University of Iowa. She holds certifications through the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. Abby’s passions in healthcare lie with quality, innovations, policy, and breaking down barriers to aid in navigating the complexities of the healthcare system.

Nicole Weathers

Nicole Weathers, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, is a nursing leader bridging practice, academia, and entrepreneurship. With a decade as Program Director of the University of Iowa’s Online Nurse Residency Program, she has deep experience in nurse intrapreneurship. Currently pursuing a DNP in Health Systems and Leadership, Nicole is passionate about expanding access to healthcare resources and fostering innovation in nursing. She is actively involved in professional organizations and has co-founded nurse-owned businesses.

Dr. Kirsten Hanrahan 

Kirsten Hanrahan, DNP, ARNP, CPNP-PC, FAAN is the Director of Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with 25 years of experience as a pediatric nurse practitioner. Dr. Hanrahan is well versed in EBP, clinical research and innovation. Her interests include interventions for pediatric procedural pain and implementation science. Dr. Hanrahan is an author of the revised Iowa Model© and Iowa Implementation for Sustainability Framework©. She has numerous publications, national and international presentations, and has been named one of Iowa’s 100 Great Nurses, a 2019 Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a 2020-2021 Mayday Pain & Society Fellow.

 

Dr. Laura Cullen 

Laura Cullen, DNP, RN, FAAN leads Evidence-Based Practice at University of Iowa Health Care. Laura is internationally recognized for her expertise in EBP and implementation. Among her many accomplishments, she is most proud of the many clinicians she has mentored and staying application oriented. Laura’s work has led to innovation in practice; improvements for patients, clinicians, and organizations; and transformation of many organizations’ EBP infrastructure. She has over 100 publications and presents nationally and internationally. Laura is on the editorial board for and has a regular EBP column in the Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing and is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Nursing and has been on the grant review panel for the DAISY Foundation. She has received multiple awards and her work supported numerous awards for the nursing department.

Allie Hurt

UI Ventures

Allison Hurt MSN, RN is the Nurse Innovator Liaison for the Nurse Innovators Program at the University of Iowa. Through her role with UI Ventures and the Nurse Innovators Program, Allie provides support to nurses at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, as well as across the state of Iowa. She assists nurses with identifying, developing, and nurturing innovative ideas from concept to prototype across the widely diverse field of nursing. Prior to joining UI Ventures, Allie spent two years as an inpatient nurse working on the Burn ICU/Trauma Intermediate Unit, as well as the last six years in the Medical Intensive Care Unit where she maintains membership in the STAR (Skin Team Advocate and Resource) shared governance committee. She also found a passion in nurturing the next generation of nurses though her adjunct role with the Kirkwood Community College Department of Nursing. Allie received an Associate of Science in Nursing from Kirkwood Community College; and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing-Leadership and Management from Western Governors University.

Dr. Dawn Bowker

Iowa State University


Dr. Dawn Bowker is a nurse practitioner, educator, and researcher with over 40 years of nursing experience. Dr. Bowker is the Director of Nursing Education and Clinical Associate Professor of Nursing at Iowa State University. Dr. Bowker obtained a PhD in Nursing Science from New Mexico State University, a master’s degree in Transcultural Nursing and Community from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, and is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner with clinical experience in both private and community sectors. Dr. Bowker serves as a transcultural clinician and consultant on cultural discordance issues in the delivery of healthcare and is passionate about population health, public policy, advocacy, and increasing awareness of the impact of social determinants of health on health outcomes. Dr Bowker is a national speaker and visionary leader in nursing education with expertise in curriculum development, innovative educational strategies, and integrating social determinants of health and meaningful population-based clinical experiences in nursing curricula.   



Karla Kerkove

Iowa State University


Karla Kerkove is an experienced educator with a background teaching in associate and baccalaureate degree nursing programs. She currently holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor at Iowa State University. Karla received her master’s in nursing education and holds two national certifications as a Certified Nurse Educator and Critical Care Nurse. Karla has over a decade of nursing experience, including intensive care, clinical education, and academic nursing education. Her current pursuit of a Ph.D. in nursing science reflects her passion for research and innovation, particularly in the evaluation methods and support of nurse educators in addressing social and structural determinants of health. She has served as a change agent, developing multiple educational opportunities and leading initiatives to foster the development of both nurses and student nurses.
