Heidi Shedenhelm, DNP, RN, NE-BC, is a nurse administrator in the Department of Nursing at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Ms. Shedenhelm joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 1999 and holds the academic rank of assistant professor of nursing, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Ms. Shedenhelm also is an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. Ms. Shedenhelm earned her B.S.N. and her M.S.N. in nursing administration at the University of Iowa, where she subsequently earned her D.N.P. in health systems administration. A visionary leader in healthcare transformation, she combines clinical expertise with innovative strategies to revolutionize patient care and health system operations. A respected thought leader, she frequently presents at national conferences and is dedicated to mentoring future healthcare leaders through her work in academia. Dr. Shedenhelm's unique blend of clinical insight, systems thinking, and innovative vision positions her as a driving force in shaping the future of healthcare.  Ms. Shedenhelm is an active member of and serves on the board of the Membership Committee of the American Organization of Nurse Leaders and is a member to the Nursing Institute of Healthcare Design.

Brianne Bakken, PharmD, MHA, is an experienced health systems administrator, workforce researcher, educator, and leader. She is passionate about people, process, creativity, data, strategy, and innovation. Bakken joined the University of Iowa College of Nursing (UICON) as an Associate Professor of Health Systems Administration and Executive Leadership in October 2023. Prior to joining the UICON, Bakken was a founding faculty member and Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Pharmacy Manager at Children’s Wisconsin where she was responsible for strategic planning, practice advancement, education, and residency programs for pharmacy. Bakken is a member of the Midwest Pharmacy Workforce Research Consortium that produces the National Pharmacist Workforce Study (NPWS), a systematic nationwide survey of pharmacists that is conducted approximately every five years. Her research interests include pharmacy workforce issues and trends, worker well-being, leadership, pharmacy residency training and certifications, practice advancement, health system and ambulatory care pharmacy practice.  Bakken received her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, followed by completion of the PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics along with a Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree from the University of Iowa College of Public Health.

We want to hear from YOU! INA would like to engage with you to share information and learn from Iowa nurses about the very important topics of DEI, Workplace Violence, Innovation in Nursing, and Advocacy and how they impact nursing professionals. The virtual town halls are designed as an informal, open forum, event where we invite you to join the conversation and share your suggestions for ways to improve nursing in Iowa. Our objective is to provide support to Iowa's nurses as well as develop goals and initiatives that support the needs of nurses that align with INA's mission and vision.

    Our Mission is to connect, support, and advocate for nurses and healthcare in Iowa.

    Our Vision is for INA to advocate for Iowa Nurses. Together, we promote the growth of the profession, guide nursing practice, and monitor current issues in nursing. Our strength is to stay engaged, by advocating for and connecting with Iowa nurses in the diverse, dynamic healthcare environment. The event is complimentary and is open to all nurses in Iowa.
